Call for art! For exhibition in Edinburgh Festival July 2015. Running under the Institute of Photography Scotland's 'Season of Photography'

ACTINIC

akˈtɪnɪk   Adjective technical

: of light relating to, resulting from, or exhibiting chemical reactions, as in photography produced by radiant energy especially in the visible and ultraviolet parts of the spectrum

The ACTINIC Festival is a celebration of photograph, print and other arts created with some element of actinism- analogue light-sensitive solutions. This could come in the form of alternative or historic photographic work such as (but not limited to) pinhole, salt albumen, chemigram, gum bichromate, collodion process, lipman plate, platinum, carbon, bromoil, or instant film. We are also seeking work from printmaking realms as there is crossover between these two fields - work utilising screen print, photo litho, photo or polymer graveur and others as well as other work which might include photochromism, sculpture or installation, including analogue photography elements. While we want work that references the past with use of materials we are looking for contemporary application! Send us an email if you're unsure but please do not send us images directly.

We are not apposed to the use of digital tools, however the work must have been made with an actinic element. Please do not submit conventional silver gelatin or chromogenic prints (they must have something 'more') or straight inkjet prints, though photograms, photo encaustics, and digital transfers are acceptable. Surprise us with your most ingenious and interesting work. We're honoured to be having this festival (in the spirit of the pinhole festival and alt- photo fest of previous years) in Edinburgh, Scotland at a number of esteemed venues including: Stills: Scotland's Centre for Photography, Edinburgh Printmakers, Summerhall and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with more to be announced! We are part of the Institute of Photography Scotland's 'Season of Photography'.

'The 2015 Season of Photography is a lively series of exhibitions and events taking place in Scotland from April to September.’

Submission fees go directly into funding the events and program of the festival. We are so thankful for the support of our sponsors: Shutterhub, Ilford Photo and Permajet.
