Chapeltown Arts Festival 2014 is Celebrating Creativity in Chapeltown. The Chapeltown Arts Festival will be held over a 3 day period on the 4th, 5th and 6th July 2014. All the art displayed or performed this year will be from and by people who live and work in Chapeltown. The festival planners expect to include visual arts, dance, live music, open studios, performance art and spoken word over the 3 days. Events will take place in existing venues such as The Northern School of Contemporary Dance, West Indian Centre, the local park areas, Reginald Centre Library etc. The festival will be the first of it's kind in Chapeltown and will coincide with Le Grand Départ of Le Tour de France. We are looking for artists, makers and creatives who currently live and work in Chapeltown to submitt an application to be part of the festival and show case their practice. The Chapeltown Arts Festival 2014 will present a variety of art forms over the 3 day period. The Festival Planning group know that Chapeltown offers a host of artists that could be involved in the festival. The application forms presented should cover the different types of submissions required for the festival.

Closing date: 4 May 2014

There are 5 submission forms to choose from:

Arts and Crafts exhibitor - This form is for artists, makers or creatives who want to present and sell the work they make. Stalls cost £10 for individuals and £15 for groups. The art and craft fair will be on Saturday 6th. There will be various sites around Chapeltown.

Open Studios - This form is for artists, makers or creatives who want to open up their art studios to the public. Open studios will be on the 5th and 6th July 2014. More details will be given nearer the date.

Artwork proposal - This form is for artists who want to exhibit or perform their work in their own way somewhere in Chapeltown. It could be any genre, community art or performance art. Just write out your proposal in the form and submit.

2D/3D art - There will be an opportunity for visual artists working in 2D or 3D to exhibit their work in one of 3 sites in Chapeltown. Work can be for sale. Please fill in the form and submit if you wish to do this.

Artist information - This form is for those artists, makers and creatives who are unable to contribute their art this year but would like to be profiled in the Chapeltown Artists Directory.

All artists, makers and creatives must have public liabilty insurance. If you plan to work with Children, young people or vulnerable adults you must possess a valid DBS.

Who is eligible for this opportunity?
Any individual or group that lives or works (voluntary or paid capacity) in the Chapeltown area of Leeds is eligible. If you are part of a group and only one or more of you live in Chapeltown whilst others in the group live elsewhere this is acceptable and you can apply.
When is the deadline?
The deadline for submissions via CuratorSpace is midnight on Sunday 4th May 2014
How many works can I submit?
You can submit as many ideas or works as you wish. Ideas will be discussed and explored with artists, makers and creatives. Collaborations will be encouraged where appropriate. The Festival Planning group will have the final decision on what will be exhibited or performed in the Chapeltown Arts Festival.
When is the delivery date?
You will be informed nearer the time of delivery dates for 2D and 3D art pieces.
When do I need to collect my work?
You will be informed nearer the time of collection dates for 2D and 3D art pieces.
Are there payments to artists?
There is currently no payment to artists in this process. The Festival Planning group have a limited budget this year. Fundraising activities remain an integral part of the planning process. Artists are encouraged to fund raise for their own activities for the festival.
Is there a private view / opening?
For some of the visual art events it is expected that there will be a private viewing on or before the 3rd July 2014. All artists will be kept updated on this issue.
What are the exhibition opening hours?
Visual art exhibtions opening times will be decided nearer the festival dates. All artists will be kept updated on this issue.
Does the location have wheelchair access?
Most of the locations and venues for the events of the festival have wheelchair access. The locations of these venues will be made clear in the festival programme. Any venue that has limited access will be identified.
What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
All artists, makers and creatives who submitt an application will be profiled in the Chapeltown Artists Directory. The programme for the festival will outline all events and artists showcasing their work and activities.
Do I need to be present?
Yes. An agreed rota for artists who exhibit at specified venues will be drawn up.
Where will my venue be listed?
All available listings in Leeds and surrounding areas.
How do you decide on proposals?
We will decide the proposals by first establisihing that you live or work in Chapletown. Then we will see where your work can be performed or exhibited. All proposals will be looked at individually and advise or support given to ensure that the work reaches it's potential for the festival.
Is there a theme for the Chapeltown Arts Festival 2014?
There is no specific theme for the festival. It is useful to bear in mind the major events for 2014 in Leeds and the UK. For example Le Tour de France or the 100 year anniversary of World War I. Chapeltown itself offers a myriad of ideas in it's people, its past, its present and it's future.
