Corridor8, in partnership with Leeds College of Art, invites proposals for an early career writer-in-residence responding to the exhibition 'Felice House: RE-WESTERN'
Corridor8, the online platform for contemporary art and writing in the North, invites proposals for an early career writer-in-residence at Leeds College of Art.
Fee, inclusive of travel costs: £400
Application Deadline: Wednesday 21 December, 5pm
This residency opportunity is intended to encourage critical and creative forms of art writing that depart from a review-style format, which demonstrates the relevance of contemporary art (its production, display and reception) to wider issues and contexts. Based at Leeds College of Art (Blenheim Walk), the writer-in-residence will have the opportunity to develop their own writing and contribute to the College’s wider programme, diversifying their experience of writing in art organisational settings and developing public programmes.
The successful applicant will spend 2 days at Leeds College of Art during the exhibition, Felice House: RE-WESTERN, liaising with the artist, curator and co-investigators. They will produce a 1,200-word piece of art writing that broadly and creatively responds to House’s work, ‘a feminist interrogation of the Western film genre’. The writer will then work with a member of Corridor8’s editorial team to develop the draft for publication, with a print deadline of 31 January 2017.
Leeds College of Art will provide a residency space available to the writer on agreed dates (one of the two days must be on the 16th, 17th or 18th of January, during the install). The final text will be showcased on the Corridor8 website and included in a printed catalogue.
Applicants must be based in the Yorkshire region, at an early stage of their career and have a genuine interest in working closely with artists, curators and editors to evolve their writing practice.
Applicants should submit:
• A short proposal outlining the approach to the residency and exhibition themes (max. 300 words)
• An example of writing (full text or excerpt up to 750 words)
• A CV
Proposals will be evaluated on the basis of the candidate’s suitability to the residency and quality of writing. The selection panel comprises Lara Eggleton (Managing Editor, Corridor8) and Catriona McAra (Curator, Leeds College of Art).
