A funded opportunity for artists graduating in 2016 to use a designated space within Lady Beck studios to develop a new body of work throughout September. The selected artists will develop work for an exhibition which will open on Light Night, using the work they produce during the residency as a starting point.

Applicants are welcomed from across the UK from any discipline, including those from outside of the arts, but must be graduating from a programme of study in 2016 and be engaged in some form of ongoing artistic practice.

Participating artists must be available to take part in the residency from early September through to mid October 2016. We do not expect you to give all of your time to the residency as we are understanding of other commitments and paid work but we would like the resident artists to have enough time to experiment and develop a new body of work. The selected artists will work in a newly-built shared space on the top floor of the Lady Beck building and are free to use the Project Space whenever it is available. The exhibition will take place in the Project Space and we will host an opening event for this on Light Night (Friday 7th October).

Successful applicants will receive £100 each towards developing their work,  24/7 access to the building, and the opportunity to present their new work in October. Applicants will not be expected to collaborate with each other to produce work, but an openness to some element of shared exploration and dialogue is welcomed. We are not explicitly looking for detailed project proposals with concrete endpoints, but rather an indication of your interests, and the general appoach you would bring to this residency.  Throughout the residency period, we will be on hand to support the delivery of the project and hope to organise some tutorials/crits with other artists, centred around the resident artists' projects.

People may apply individually or as a group. Size limitations mean we unfortunately cannot host large groups. Successful applicants will be expected to work in-situ at Lady Beck throughout the duration of the residency.

For consideration, please submit:

·       An expression of interest in this opportunity, and an indication of how you would approach the project (up to 250 words)

·       An artist’s statement (up to 250 words)

·       Up to 10 examples of your work, with a link to an online portfolio/blog/website if possible

If you have any additional questions at all please feel free to contact us through Curator Space or e-mail them directly to info@assemblyhousestudios.co.uk

Lady Beck Studios and Project Space is based in the heart of Mabgate and is named after the stream that runs through the area; many will be aware of the space under it’s previous name ‘Enjoy’. It is now being managed by the team behind Assembly House, an arts space in Armley which was founded in 2014.
