Light Night Volunteer Coordinator (Intern)
Responsibilities
- To assist the Arts Development Officer to identify specific volunteer roles and write a call out for volunteers.
- Liaise with universities, colleges, arts organisations and agencies to reach potential volunteers.
- Assist the Senior Arts Project Officer and Light Night Staff to interview potential volunteers and allocate to specific roles.
- Create a database of recruited volunteers and ensure information is communicated to them effectively.
- Work with Arts Development and Light Night staff to organise volunteer training and briefing sessions and create a timetable for delivery of the event.
- Liaise with Light Night staff, artists and venues, regarding volunteer provision and duties.
- To ensure volunteers reflect the ideals, values and aims of Light Night.
- To oversee the work of volunteers in the lead up to and during the festival, ensuring a high quality volunteer offer and a positive volunteer experience.
- Ensure volunteers are equipped with suitable materials and equipment to undertake their role.
- To create an evaluation of the volunteer strategy after the festival.
- To be aware of and adhere to Leeds City Council Health and Safety Policy.
- To promote and apply consistently the principles of Leeds City Council Equal Opportunities Policies both with colleagues and members of the public to ensure fair and equal access to services and opportunities.
Relationships
The post holder will be required to maintain effective relationships with: Arts Development and freelance Light Night staff; other interns and volunteers; members of the public; artists and arts organisations; universities and colleges.
Physical Conditions
The post holder will be based at Leeds Town Hall but may be asked to work at another service point when necessary.
This post involves direct and indirect work with the public.
The post holder will be required to work full time the week of the 3rd October including evenings on the training day of October 3rd and Light Night – Thursday 6th & Friday 7th October 2016.
Work requirements
Dates: 22nd August 2016 – 15th October 2016
Hours: Part-time August & September, full time in October (including some unsociable hours.)
Salary
Paid internship of £1000
Qualifications/Experience
- Knowledge and skills in event management, and experience of working with volunteers is essential.
- Previous experience in volunteering or stewarding at events and attendance at previous Light Night Leeds is desirable.
- Candidates must be have excellent communication and organisational skills and be computer literate.
