Exhibition proposals for The Old Courts 2017 gallery program are invited from artists & curators. We welcome ambitious proposals for solo and group shows from a variety of disciplines to exhibit in the Isherwood Gallery. Applications for January, February and March will be considered first. Please note the months that you are applying to when making your application.

The Old Courts is a 69,000 square ft. not for profit multi-arts venue which aims to bring innovative art, music, comedy, dance and spoken word to Wigan. Our building was built is 1887 and retains much of its original charm, including a Victorian courtroom and adjoining prison cells. It currently houses an art gallery, artist studios, two music venues, bars, band practice rooms and cellar cinema with plans to have an art café and theatre in the near future. The building has excellent links to both Liverpool and Manchester. The Old Courts believe in a healthy cross-over between disciplines and would welcome any related events alongside an exhibition, such as workshops, talks, music and screenings.

Exhibitions will last for 2-4 weeks, including installation. There will be no charge for the exhibition space, and no commission on sales, all proceeds go to the exhibitors.

Measurements for our two adjoining gallery spaces are as follows:

Room 1: 30x18ft

Room 2: 18x15ft

The Old Courts will publicise the exhibition via events listings, social media, mailing lists and posters. Material expenses, transport, and installation costs are the responsibility of the artists/curators. Artists/curators are obliged to provide their own public liability insurance and to contribute to the invigilation of the exhibition when possible.
