Join us as we delve into the theme of Environment and explore its various interpretations through contemporary art. A diverse range of art forms, including visual and performing arts, is welcome.

This year's Redcar Summer Exhibition, supported by the Arts Council, marks an exciting collaboration with guest curator, a former Head of Fine Art at the Goldsmiths College London, Prof. Michael Archer, who will lead the artwork selection panel.

Exhibition Period: 13th July to 31st August

Application Deadline: 10th May (midnight)

Selection Announcement: 27th May

Artwork Delivery to the Gallery: 18th -22nd June

Preview: 12th July (Friday), 5-8 pm

Public Opening and Curator Talk: 13th July

World Cafe Artists Networking Event: 14th July

Closing Event: 31st August

Exhibited Work Collection: 31st August (after 4 pm) - 1st-3rd September (10 am-5 pm)

While there is no application fee, a handling charge of £10 per accepted work applies. Gallery commission stands at 30%.

Artwork can be personally delivered or sent to the gallery (see FAQ for details). 

Some financial assistance may be available for shipping in the case of: (i) large works or (ii) where an artist has special financial needs regarding affordibility – in both cases please enquire if your artwork is accepted. 

Wherever possible, artists are encouraged to use sustainable and/or recycled materials.

Costs:

Application is free but if your work is accepted, it will cost £10 per piece. You need to pay it by bank transfer.

How many works can I submit?
Up to three works.
When is the delivery date?
18th June (Tuesday) - 22nd (Saturday) between 10 am - 6 pm.
You can bring your work or send it to the gallery by post or courier.
When do I need to collect my work?
You can collect your work 31st August after 4 pm or between 1st - 4th September between 10 am - 6 pm.
How much does it cost?
Application is free but if your work is accepted, it will cost £10 per piece. You need to pay it by bank transfer.
Are there payments to artists?
We can offer some assistance for the shipping of large work. Please contact us if you require assistance.
Is there a private view / opening?
Private view is 12th July from 5 pm - 8 pm with drinks. Public opening and curator talk is 13th July. There will also be 'World Cafe' - an artists networking event on Sunday, 14th July and a Closing event on the 31st August.
What are the exhibition opening hours?
The gallery opening hours are Wednesday - Saturday 11 am - 4 pm.
Does the location have disabled access?
No
What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
The gallery will be producing a physical catalogue as well as an online catalogue. Agreed art works will also be included for sale online via gallery's website.
Do I need to be present?
All the successful artists are invited for all the events (Preview, Curator's talk, World Café networking event and Closing event) and we would love to see you there.
What are the selection criteria?
We have a selection panel led by Prof. M. Archer. They are looking at the quality of artwork as well as it's concept.
Is there a size limit?
For painting and print, it should be no larger than 100cm x 150cm. Installation and sculpture, we do not limit size however, the work must be able to be brought in through a standard-sized door.
Do you accept performing art?
We would like to encourage applications from performing artists.
Are there accommodation recommended?
Redcar can be very busy during summer especially on the weekends. We recommend you to book accommodation at your earliest possible time. If you cannot find one in Redcar, check nearby towns such as Middlesbrough, Marske on the Sea and Saltburn by the Sea. They are easy to access.
