Slop Projects is looking for creative writers/text artists to take part in our pop-up exhibition at the Wild Museum, Dukes Hagg Woods, Prudhoe, which will showcase exciting contemporary art by emerging rural artists in the North East. The exhibition will feature 2 visual artists, and we are now looking for creative writing work to join the exhibition.

We are looking for creative writing/poetry/text/audio art that could be read in an outdoor space, and are open to ideas if you think your work would be suitable. The exhibition will take place May 2024, and a publication featuring the artwork and writing pieces will also be produced.

For the exhibition and publication, we can offer a fee of £100, and are currently fundraising so if successful would increase this fee, and select more than one submission.

Themes:

In this exhibition we will present the work of local artists who challenge the idealised untouched landscapes and chocolate box depictions dominating art scenes in rural areas. We’re looking for original, exciting and honest artwork that has some connection to the countryside, be it the material, theme or artist.

We think that representations of rural life in contemporary art are monopolised by the privileged - we’re bored of this and want to promote fresh ideas/depictions/experiences that reflect your rural realities. We encourage underrepresented artists to apply for this opportunity, and believe in promoting a range of experiences and viewpoints.

Please do contact us if you have any questions, or if you want to submit an application in another more accessible format, we would be very happy to help.
