Open call for Musicians, writers and artists. Experimental vinyl album project due for release 2018

We are currently inviting writers, musicians and artists to contribute to an album scheduled for release 2018

The album follows the story of Preta Eshana, a female hungry spirit who has been granted passage to visit the human world for one spirit day (ten human years) to observe how humans deal with suffering. At the end of the 10 years, she must report to Abhaya (Fearlessness) regarding what she has discovered.

All profits from the album will go to Bens Centre, a Sheffield charity that works with vulnerable street drinkers. All artists whose submission is accepted will receive an album and will be credited for their work.

Main principles and outcomes of project

To produce a limited edition album. For the album, to contain separate pieces of music, artwork, prints, a book, photographs.

To take the idea of using a high-end limited edition crafted product, to exploit its appearance, for it to appear as more than the product itself, so it becomes product as lifestyle/experience.

The album itself, however, challenges all of the above through its content.

To forge a piece of multimedia art that has the ability to ignite conversations and inspire others to find creative ways to make internal and external transformations on both a personal and societal level.

For each artist to give a personal interpretation of the life and experiences of Preta Eshana.

Call to Artists, Musicians and Writers.

For this project, we would like to offer artists the opportunity to work within a certain set of 'positive limitations and disruptions'. This means that if an applicant is accepted, they will then be asked to work within a certain set of limitations eg: use only certain materials/ certain colours.

This is done for two reasons:

  1. To allow a flow of continuity between contributors.
  2. To investigate how voluntarily imposed disruptions have the ability to transform our work.

Nb. There is also a possibility of a documentary film being made about the project.

We highly recommend anyone wishing to submit an application view a more detailed explanation of the project provided here: https://medium.com/@GetFreeclarity/open-call-to-artists-13f49aaf41f5#.hwlqxk4gm
