I am an artist working with mixed media, including printmaking, drawing, collage and stitch using a variety of surfaces including papers and fabrics. I have my own studio space equipped with a printing press, sewing machine and a huge variety of inks, paints and other things to play with. My work is an intuitive response to my experience of nature - landscape, skies, water, rocks .

My work evolves in a very organic way merging memory and experience of landscape with the making of rich and varied surfaces. Originally trained as a fine artist I am now exploring the use of a huge variety of media and techniques which inspire me to create the mixed media pieces developed over recent years. My approach is to play, to experiment and to produce the raw materials which will be used at a later stage. It’s a process led method in which I allow my intuition to guide the work. I would like to describe this working method as analogous to creating music – certain combinations of notes, sounds, rhythms and melodies – which evoke moods and feelings, this time in the viewer. Colour and texture are of paramount importance to me because of their ability to stir feelings and memories. The resulting images are therefore not pre-planned, but arrive as a result of the ongoing dialogue between my process and my responses. I am currently using lino, monoprint and collagraph to produce prints which are then used in combination with other techniques such as inks on wet paper and drawing with fine liner pens. Sometimes I tear these up, sometimes I cut them more deliberately. I will often play with several different pieces, including some using natural fabrics, and then collage them together. The work is then “drawn” into using machine stitch. The size and format of the work can therefore be of infinite variety. A new direction now emerging is the exploration of hand stitching to create texture and form, again in an intuitive way and often on mono-printed surfaces which guide the image.
