Ije (pronounced Eee J) – A conceptual/expressionist mixed practice artist – painting, poetry, installation, sculpture, printing, photography, film and curation. MA Fine Art Birmingham City University.

Undertaking durational activity in the landscape, I wonder about what went before me and what may lie ahead; I wonder about the relationships between land, sky, water and inhabitants; I wonder about singularities and multiples, about folding time, pain, fear, hope, love and energy. My work seeks to reshape embodied notions, responding to encounters with time, space, place and change through making and documenting; generating works activated through gesture, texture, layering, repetition, colour and reflectivity.

My works vary in size, most often on a larger scale. When painting I work predominantly in acrylics and oils, often mixing directly on the surface, working quickly and intensively, layering and incorporating other materials such as yarn, textiles, found / recycled objects like swarf, wire, glass and sparkly reflective things to create tactile, highly textured and vibrant works. Documentation (video / journals) from my activities, memory and fabrications informs all my work, particularly my PFHOEMS – painting/ film/ photography interwoven with my poems.

I take commissions and run small group painting workshops.

I collaborate with other artists - currently PlaceSpace Collective based in Warwickshire and the OMHS Collective based in Oxfordshire. An active member of Rugby Artists Group (RAG), I have also held committee roles for RAG, Warwickshire Open Studios (2013-2017) and the Association of Midland Artists (2011-2014).
