Passion and curiousity drive my spirited approach towards painting large abstract gestural paintings to evoke the unseen of our space and being.
The most important aspect of my paintings is that they are a celebration. I use them to act as time capsules in celebrating the values of presence in the ‘now’. The relationship of abstract painting and philosophy have built up a true profound overwhelm in my development; as they bring me confidence and inner truth to my life and practice as an artist. The concepts that lie behind the layers in these paintings are hidden, sometimes not even there, as the process overlays the idea. However, this has an aspect of duality to it, as it gives me a chance to place the objective over the subjective, which resonates a deeper notion with how we can use form of line and shape to illustrate the immaterial.
The paintings resonate with deep confusions as I consider them to be portraiture of the mind where conversations of their large scale and expression invite the viewers to question their surroundings. Abstract, primitive, and energetic applications conduct the painterly act to achieve speed and motion whilst still mindfully considering the relationships between each brushstroke. This process says a lot about the ‘everyday’ of humanity as it speaks on chaos in our lives yet also brings forth the sense of intimacy and connection. These human-like qualities influence me along with the identity that is held in the patterns of nature.
