I am a ceramic artist based in York (UK), specialising in handbuilding. I make groups of tall sculptural vessels, inspired by the still life paintings of Georgio Morandi (1890-1964) and finished in a restrained pallet of greys, cream, charcoal and spice.

I make groups of tall (c 35 cms) sculptural handbuilt vessels, placed in trios, inspired by the still life paintings of Georgio Morandi (1890-1964). The mono work is finished in slip in a restrained pallet of earth colours and fired, unglazed, to stoneware. The recent 'strata' vessels are composed of 4 different types and tones of clay; in their trios, two Mono pieces relate to the tones of the Strata piece.

In terms of ceramic artists, I draw inspiration from the approaches of Jennifer Lee and Ashraf Hanna. Both of these contemporary ceramic artists handbuild their sculptural work, as I do - starting with a pinch pot and proceeding with coiling. They put particular emphasis on clean lines and on the quality of finish, as I also aim to do.
