London-based abstract painter/sculptor

Melissa is a London-based abstract artist who works in both painting and sculpture. Her eclectic range of professional experiences nestled within her multilingual identity feed her artistic practice.  She began working with abstract painting, but her curiosity and experimentation with material, colour and form during her studies at Central Saint Martins played a significant role in her work and now both disciplines intertwine in her practice. She is influenced by a wide range of sources. However her primary reference point comes from the chaos inherent in big cities.  Her practice, seeks to express the dynamism, noise and speed of complex structures orbiting around us. The old steam engines, coal-fired boilers, and accumulators in the Tower Bridge Engine Rooms and mechanical tools inspired her to replicate these details in her sculptures and paintings. Nature, especially birds and classical music play an important role in her recent paintings where she seeks to heighten awareness of the elements of nature and urban imagery, and invites the viewer to witness the intricacies as well as the beauty of the world around us.
