Rebecca Hann Warwickshire, United Kingdom
I have recently graduated with First-class Honours in Fine Art Mixed Media from the University of Westminster, where my practice included utilizing the subject of nature to question the effects our ever-evolving artificial world has on humans mental wellbeing, the way we perceive the outside world and our disconnection from it. I work mainly in moving image, photography and installation.
Working across the mediums of moving image, photography and installation I have been exploring the impact of humans disconnection from nature on mental health and the impending environmental crisis. Utilizing the subject of water and its surrounding areas I organize both the natural and artificial structures of the elements and combined them to articulate my thoughts and research on how our ever-evolving technological world has impacted how humans view the outside world and a how the societal structure that has been built through capitalism has kept us blind to the effects our living practices have on our ecosystem.
The abstract quality of my moving images is the visualization of our social structure, that the abstraction of the world (nature) has become normal practice without intention, the construct of today’s society has led to this, abstraction has led to disconnection.
