Rejectamental West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Self-taught outsider artist creating mixed-media artwork using recycled materials and found objects to explore themes of memory, history, mortality and dreams.
Rejectamenta – things or matter rejected as worthless or useless.
Trash from the street, old photographs, rusting metal, natural and found objects: anything that catches my eye can end up playing a part in creating my worlds, often becoming the catalysts for my mixed media artworks. I like to create narratives with my work, whether exploring the darker side of folk and fairy tales or my own subconscious. My art is also a means of therapy, allowing me to confront my mental illness and express my thoughts and ideas in a constructive way. I am mostly self-taught, having found the academic approach to art to be counter-intuitive to my own ideas and methods. I explore themes of identity, mortality, dreams, and my own memories and mental health. I hope to encourage dialogues and discussion about these subjects through my art. In 2017 I was shortlisted for the New Light Art Prize.
Rejectamental – casting off the labels of society and embracing an alternative ideology.
