Christine Hughes Fine Art North Yorkshire, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

Working with mixed media and creating bold canvasses using vibrant neons. Christine experiments with texture using inspiration from North Yorkshire as her starting point for her work. An illustrative style of quirky animals in our landscape and gardens. Mediums include acrylic, watercolour and ceramics.

Mark making is a process which is being explored in my work using strong bold colours and texture in my pieces, layering different mediums, removing paint and adding more layers to create depth to complete the piece. Inspiration comes in many forms, visits to the beach and walks in the forest, ramshackle crumbling buildings with peeling paint all feature in my work. I’m particularly interested in old doors with the layers of coloured paint visible beneath. My signature bold pink neons are definitely a main feature. Canvasses range in size from over a metre square to smaller works, painting large scale allows me freedom to create movement and evoke a real sense of impact on a wall.
