Bob Cooper West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Bob is fascinated by nature, mountains, the sea and patterns in nature. After detailed studies Bob noticed a lot of similarities between waves and mountains – they both have peaks and valleys, light and shadow in similar places. Bob creates bold linocuts in minimal colours. From each linocut he produces a limited edition of 30 handmade prints, each print is unique and tells its own story.
From a very young age Bob has always been an artist. From his first drawings of characters from books he’d read to life drawing classes that he still goes to Bob has always found solace creating art. In 1997 Bob enrolled at Bretton Hall College of Art to study fine art sculpture. For the next three years he immersed himself in art. Bob lived and worked at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and started to discover his practice. As the new millennium dawned Bob became fascinated with the internet and how it could connect people. His first forays into digital art were naïve and rudimentary but they instilled a fascination with connectivity that still influences his art to this day.
In 2002 Bob found an old photocopier in Leeds College of Art and started experimenting with duplication. He took a photograph, then photocopied it. He then photocopied the copy and then copied the copy again. With each copy aberrations and distortions appeared in the image. Before long the image became an abstract piece of art. For the next few years Bob produced 78 Copies and exhibited them at the Biscuit Factory in Newcastle.
From this point Bob became fascinated with duplication and repetition. All his works since have been limited edition prints in series. Bob often returns to a subject and revisits it in a different way. Each duplication brings new distortions and changes. It seemed perfectly natural for Bob to start making linocuts, exploring duplication and repetition through ink and printing. Bob recently exhibited work at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair and continues to produce limited edition prints based on repetition, duplication and connectivity.
