  Back to profiles

Chris Kent is an artist, illustrator and woodworker based in Scotland. Chris has worked as a painter and sculptor since 1991. He has created many powerful wood sculptures, with many as commissioned architectural pieces. He is also an illustrator and has published 3 graphic novels.

The range of my work covers drawing, painting, printmaking, digital art, text, sculpture using wood and found objects and deals with ideas of beauty, gender identity, object-relations theory, mysticism and loss. My work has lately concentrated on wood sculpture examining issues of gender identity seen in parallel to current geographical and political uncertainties, recently incorporating soundtrack collaboration. In 2019 I intend to develop this work further by collaborating with an experimental theatre company to extend the work into performance. I have continued to run various public workshops and courses throughout this time. I have published 3 graphic novels - Medusa, Flood and the British Comics Awards nominated comic book The Golem. I am currently at work on a semi-autobiographical graphic novel titled Shadow Players, dealing with bereavement and featuring Orson Welles as a principal character.
