Dan Beesley West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
I am visual artist from Leeds in West Yorkshire. I am versatile artist interested in lots of ways of working - print, collage, photography, painting, installation, 3D sculpture, music and design. I enjoy finding new, interesting and alternative ways to look at a subject. I like combining combinations of contrasting images and materials to create my work.
I am always looking for new ways and approaches to my creativity. By changing the method or adapting a process or materials used. I enjoy learning on the job and my work always has an organic process. I find the easiest way of approaching and explaining my work comes from my love of collage. At its simplest it is taking two things and putting them together to make one new thing.
I am currently working on a project of collage I have made then printed onto newspaper. Previously I made a illuminated forrest assembled form used glass bottles. (The Forrest in St. Stephens Church 2017 / Kirkstall Art Trail) In my project (Imagined Landscapes 2015-16 / No Frills - The Doomed Gallery, London & Lady Beck, Leeds) I painted on to rolls of wallpaper which then hung from the ceiling of the gallery and rolled into the floor.
As I develop my practice my understanding of what I am trying to achieve becomes clearer. I feel my work moving towards a more simplified and minimal approach not only in its aesthetic but also its materials and process. I am trying to find honesty in my art.
