Lisa Risbec West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

West Yorkshire based visual artist. Alongside my practice I work in an archive as Imaging Assistant. I worked as a creative facilitator, mentor, curator & researcher for 10 years, for orgs such as Cartwheel Arts, Pool Arts and ARC. Now studying MA in Fine Art working with themes of materiality, archival practice, personal histories and collecting.

My work is about objects, found, accumulated and made. It's about systems of archiving, organizing, arranging and it is about memory, how I relate to the objects and how objects can relate to our emotions.

I create installations using film, photography, ceramics and collage that retell a story of a certain time or deal with the archive in some way. I work with processes of collecting, sorting, arranging, transforming and thinking about how this physical process could transform the self psychically. Drawing from methods in archiving, performance and autotheory.

The work was created during a residency at Regents Trading Estate as part of Islington Mill Art Academy, where I found myself working in direct response to the space around the warehouse.

The area is in transition, with developments springing up, unused land being cleared and talks about what the area will be used for. I found myself...
