    (b. 1982 in Southampton) Adam Burton is a visual artist working in print and social engagement. He studied Fine Art at Bath Spa UC (BA, MFA) and lives in Hastings.     I see my art as a major means of communication. I rely heavily on the works to convey powerful and important messages to my audience. I’m always curious about ’man’ and his/ her thought processes. I prefer to delve deep into the psyche of humans, but despite that, always try to seek and find meaning and beauty in the most painful situations and darkest nights of our existence.

    I have returned to working as an artist after a long career as a Mental Health Nurse and have rediscovered the joy that creating art can bring. I work primarily with printmaking, working from a group studio in the Rossendale Valley in Lancashire. My surroundings, amongst the valleys on the edges of the Pennines, inspire my use of foraged, natural materials in my work.

    I am a teacher of Geography and until a few years ago I never thought I had a creative bone in my body. I then discovered wood turning and the joy of shaping wood as if it was clay. I have rapidly moved away from traditional wood turning and like to use a variety of non-traditional wood and different materials that enhance the wood. I like form and shape inspired by nature.

    An artist and psychologist, I explore the human experience from my academic activities. I illustrate psychological phenomena, theories and concept in light of the current social context and of our future. As a result, my visual language presents itself in iconic, timeless and geometric forms. Science and art converge into a visual artform of heightened aesthetic sense and vivid compositions.
