    Amy Sterly is originally from Chicago and received a B.F.A. in drawing and sculpture from Rockford College, Illinois in 1986. She moved to the U.K. in 1989 and has since exhibited throughout the UK, Europe and the USA. She is exploring ways of using domestic objects to make prints and installations. Collaborations and public interventions are an important aspect of her practice.

    I am a Sussex based artist inspired by the landscape and our emotional and physical connection with it. I use photography as my primary medium of expression, my aim being to create intuitive abstracted works as a response to the environment in all its seasonal changes and moods.

    I've worked as a freelance documentary photographer since leaving Art School in 1968. My final year project on A.S. Neill and his democratic school, Summerhill, was published as a Penguin Education Special in 1969. My work is at the National Portrait Gallery, Tate Britain Library, the National Art Library at the V&A, the V&A Museum of Childhood and la Bibliothèque nationale de France.

    I am currently based in Sheffield where I engage in professional endeavors while devoting my leisure time to the pursuit of artistic expression. Notably, I have commenced participating in competitions, and most recently curated a month-long exhibition at The Dorothy Pax in Sheffield. I have also just finished my first commission piece!

    I am a photographer and a qualified teacher. I tutor workshops in basic digital photography and cyanotype printing. My main practice is in documentary photography. I also have a passion for Camera Obscura and have designed and built my own portable CO. Inspired by largescale artworks I also have a passion for light paintings and abstractions made at night.

    Drawing for me is an act of understanding, love and acceptance. My work incorporates representation of internal states through gestures and mark making. My degree in psychology and my former career in social care and health are influences and I am interested in learning and developing a practice and methodology that can provide emotional and physical as well as cultural enrichment.
