Hi, my name is Marion Cheung and I am a visual artist working with print, paint, stitch and electroconductive materials. I live and work in South Wales. Participatory arts and interrogating my processes are fundamental to my arts practice - engaging diverse communities. Inspiring people to make art to support quality of life brings me a lot of joy and strengthens connections within communities.

I am interested in how making art with people enhances mental health and wellbeing. My practice is drawing and painting. I use found materials to make a mark. There is layering and texture - adding to its history of making. I like to combine mixed media processes with simple stitches. I make my own brushes and pens to highlight detail, colour and movement. The layering and stitch create a tactile dimension. Stitching is a slow, meditative process, allowing me to enter a space of calm without distraction or worry. It is also a process that is conducive to building community and sharing with others. Thinking carefully about materials and processes enables me to design workshops with and for different participants. Being reciprocal within the process is important to my practice.

Sometimes, electroconductive threads make the work come to life through touch and sound. They are based on memories of places, fragmented objects. They might tell a story, depending on who or what materials I am working with. I have discovered a strength for curating participant's artwork to create a cohesive piece.
