Rachael is a Textile Artist and Designer with a focus on the influence of landscape and material culture. She is a qualified lecturer with an MA in Textiles and currently also lectures at Manchester Metropolitan University. She is the co-founder of the Making Space in Huddersfield, a shared creative space that champions opportunity, creativity and collaboration in Huddersfield.

Current work is entitled Elements - A series of experimental shapes and forms placed in unusual surroundings to explore the juxtaposition of the familiar and out of place. These unaccustomed objects aim to make us think about how we decide and shape the appropriateness and personalisation of our personal and public spaces.

My practice also focuses on the re-invention of our traditional notion of landscape art through using footage of natural and urban landscapes and creating interactive sculptural textiles using a variety of techniques that captures the physicality of the landscape, not only in a visual sense but through atmosphere, light, shadow, movement and shape, exploring empathy with our favourite spaces, childhood memories and dreams. Exploring the notion that we are shaped by our surroundings and how it influences the way we live, grow and see life and how we shape our surroundings to fit our needs and needs of others. Designed to be touched and sculpted by the viewer, each person who interacts with the work creates their own narrative, experiencing interaction with art on a deeper level and creating connections between ourselves and our surroundings.
