I am a traditionally trained figurative sculptor. I specialise in portraiture and statues for both private and public commissions. I originally trained in the theatre as a prop maker and scenic artist so have experience of working in theatre and TV workshops to tight budgets and schedules. I now work from my private studio in Cheshire, creating figurative sculptures large and small.
I create sculptures in clay and cast into whatever medium the budget allows (usually resin or bronze). If the commission is a posthumous piece, I work closely with the family or relatives using photos. I also have sitters come to the studio for private portrait sessions and can create portrait busts within a few sessions. Moulds are then taken from the clay, and taken to the foundry I work closely with , to create a bronze. Or if the sculpture is to be cast into resin (or plaster) I cast the sculpture myself at the studio. I like to feel I create naturalistic, lively portraits and figures of people. My work comes from being passionate about the human form and spirit.
