Artfest Holmfirth 2019. Open call. Applications Now OPEN.

Artfest Holmfirth welcomes applications for their two day event on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th of November. A new event this year to the makers calendar aiming to attract independent artists and makers, established and new, giving them the opportunity to showcase their work and bring the very best of British Arts & Crafts back to Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.

Applicants are welcome from all disciplines: ceramics, print, jewellery, glass, sculpture, textiles, painting, mixed media, photography. The emphasis for successful selection will be original, handmade work. 

Spaces are limited to just over 50 exhibitors and consideration will be made to create an even and fair representation of each discipline. Each exhibition space measures 2.5m by 1m wide and will include pre-constructed white wooden exhibition boards 2.4m high which can be drilled and nailed into in order to create your own personalised display (Please see FAQ for further information) Included in the stand price is a standard trestle table if required (additional display lights may be ordered after selection)

It is free to apply to this event and we are offering two stand options as follows:

Type A) space measuring 2.50 long  x 1m wide with full side and backboards constructed from white exhibition paneling 2.4m tall . The panels can be nailed and drilled directly into.  Standard trestle table available if required. Display lights are available to hire and there is access to electric sockets within the hall spaces.

Type B) As above but open ended on one side. These spaces are predominantly at the end of the display alleys.

The venue, Holmfirth Civic Hall is an impressive building constructed in 1842 lying in the heart of the beautiful Last of the Summer Wine countryside and is now in the care of the Holmfirth Civic Hall Community Trust. The Trusts vision is to make Holmfirth Civic Hall an inclusive, cohesive and sustainable community asset- run in the community, by the community for the community. Artfest Holmfirth will be accommodated in the two main halls, the Large Hall and the Lesser Hall.


The location, Holmfirth is a town in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, a small town that sits just north of the Peak District in West Yorkshire. As previously mentioned it is well known as the location for the popular BBC TV series Last of the Summer Wine with thousands of fans making the journey every year to visit such iconic sites as Sid's Cafe and Nora Batty's Steps.

Aside from the attractions for the Last of the Summer wine fans, with its breath-taking scenery across the Holme Valley, lively and varied choice or shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants Holmfirth is a popular and much loved destination in West Yorkshire with visitors to the town all year round.

Are there payments to artists?
This is a selling exhibition opportunity for artists who are responsible for their own sales and payments, no commission will be taken by Artfest Holmfirth.
What are the exhibition opening hours?
The fair will be open to the public on Saturday 16th November 10am until 5pm and Sunday 17th November 10am until 4pm.
Set up will be Friday 15th 6pm until 10pm and Saturday 16th 7.30am until 9.30am.
Does the location have disabled access?
Yes, there is also a lift to the upper floor
What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
We will conduct a vigorous social media campaign via Instagram, Facebook and Twitter using our existing audience and creating new networks. We will place paid advertisements with local and relevant regional media and will also list the event on all available digital events listing sites. Flyers for the event will also be distributed widely in the area. Plus each participating artist will receive a number of the A5 flyers for distribution to their own mailing lists or to hand out whilst attending other fairs alongside digital copies of the event promotional media.
Banners, feather flags and roadside signs will be put up well in advance.
We will also promote ArtfestHolmfirth through our website www.artfestholmfirth.com which will have all the details of the event. There will be an exhibitors page with links to individual websites and images which will stay live for the following 11 months after the event.
It is also expected that all exhibitors will participate personally in the marketing of the event and promote their attendance via their own social media platforms by creating an event page on their Facebook artists page and by sharing all relevant posts on Instagram using the following #artfestholmfirth #artfestholmfirth2019 as much as possible.
Do I need to be present?
Yes, artist participation is a requirement of selection, Artfest Holmfirth will require the individual artist to be present for the duration of the event.
How do you decide on proposals?
The selection panel will meet in May and will include contribution from the invited Artist Ambassadors of Artfest Holmfirth (artists chosen for their contribution and skill to their individual discipline, with a changing selection every year) plus the organisers of the event.
What kind of proposals are you looking for?
We are looking for engaging and original work from independent designers and makers across all disciplines both established and new, emerging artists
A clearly written application and great images are paramount as, if accepted, the information provided will be used on your individual artist profile page on Artfest Holmfirth website and across all our social media and advertising platforms.
What happens if my proposal is chosen?
All applicants will be notified of the final decision by Wednesday 15th May
Payment for stands will be due by Monday 29th June.
It is expected that all selected artists will have their own PLI insurance and evidence of this will be required if selected.
