East Street Arts is looking for an artist to take up residency within one of its innovative artist pods at 34 Boar Lane in Leeds.

The new immersive art pop-up at the former Arkwright’s Tool Emporium, was developed in collaboration with LJ Real Estate and is a making, showing and social space for artists and those living in and visiting Leeds.

The space is made up of an open, stripped back area with five freestanding artist pods. These act as rooms that can be moved around within 34 Boar Lane. The artist pods were created by Studio Bark, an architecture practice with an ethos rooted in sustainable DIY design.

Each pod is 2.7m x 2.4m, and from July to September, East Street Arts is looking for an artist to take up residence in one. The space will be provided in kind for this period.

The opportunity:

We are looking for an artist who will regularly use the space; not necessarily solely as a studio. We’re open to all suggestions and ideas and there are no specific criteria for the available pod. Although they do lend themselves to a ‘cleaner’ practice, the arts charity is happy to discuss this, so if you’ve got an idea, please don’t hold back!

In your application, please indicate how much time on average per week you plan on using the space.

In exchange for the space, which will be provided in kind, the successful artist will have an active role in looking after the space and be a key part of the 34 Boar Lane community. During the residency, there may also be opportunities to use this fantastic city centre based, street-level project space, as well as the potential for public facing activity too.
