The Brief - 'Transforming Society to Solve the Climate Crisis'

Using spoken word, live art or performance, we would like you to respond to the brief 'Transforming Society to Solve the Climate Crisis and the Greatest Inequalities of Our Time'.

This may be work that you have already made which is relevant, work which you would like to adapt or an idea in the making that you would like to realise.

The Details

A podium made from upcycled materials will be created, referencing Speakers’ Corner. Underrepresented artists and members of society will create art that addresses the topic 'Transforming Society to Solve the Climate Crisis'.

If safe to do so, artists can perform their pieces on the portable podium in local parks. To support the events, a virtual exhibition and online resource will engage additional members of the community who cannot attend, document the work and serve as a virtual alternative in case of lockdown.

The piece shines a light on critical collective action to help us fight major and interlinked societal issues of our time, specifically climate change and inequality. It is aimed at all members of society, particularly those suffering from marginalisation or inequalities and will engage underrepresented artists working across all disciplines.

The piece is not only the sculpture itself but a platform for transformation. Throughout the exhibition - underrepresented artists and members of society will be given the opportunity to speak or perform on (or around) the podium. These happenings are integral to the work itself. They will comprise of visual artists, writers and performers who will be asked to use whatever medium they work in to address the topic of 'Transforming Society to Solve the Climate Crisis and the Greatest Inequalities of Our Time'.

The project creates a minimal environmental footprint whilst maximising socioeconomic benefits for the artists involved and the local community.

You can follow Amy Jackson or KCAW on Instagram for the latest updates to be informed of upcoming opportunities even if this one isn't right for you.
