We are pleased to invite submissions of text or image-based works for inclusion in our forthcoming edition of Unfold.

About the publication

Unfold brings together works that respond to or embody a state of unfolding in content or form. We welcome diverse interpretations of the theme - works may refer to or represent the unfolding of personal or collective narratives; unfolding environmental or political conditions; the coming together and unfolding of bodies; or a state of being in process.

About Copy

Established in 2010, COPY produce publications and programmes at the intersection of visual art, writing and performance. 
 
Our publications often extend beyond the page through performance, installation, events and modes of display. These shifting spatial and temporal manifestations of the work enable our contributors to play with translation, transition and slippage between content, context, design and medium. In this, we encourage contributions from artists working across material and time-based practices, as well as those working with text, print, performance and the page. 
 
Since 2019 our activity has been focused around two main strands – an ongoing series of solo/duo commissions, creating books conceived as complete works, and Unfold, a new series bringing together existing work by multiple contributors, marking ten years since our first publication.
 

Submission details

Deadline for submissions: 11:59pm, Sunday 11th December 2022.
 
◦ Works will be printed on a two-sided, lithograph printed two colour, folded publication. Contributions may take the form of colour or grayscale images, or may include images and text, but images will be printed in a maximum of two colours or black and white. Maximum word count of 1000 words, or between 1-5 high-resolution images per person. Work should be suitable to be physically printed in a publication.
 
◦ Proposals for work that may extend into a digital platform or performance are welcome, but solely weblinks and QR codes will not be considered. 
 
◦ This application form asks for abstracts of the proposed work. Full works may be emailed to us upon submission of the application form. Submissions may include a proposal for new work, and will be selected based on the relevance of the proposal and previous works, but please note that it is not possible to pay a new commission fee for this opportunity.
 
◦ We welcome proposals that include live iterations of the works -  readings/performances/lectures/screenings etc - that may feature as part of forthcoming events we host and / or participate in. 
 
◦ Selected contributors will receive a fee of £100 per contribution. 
 
◦ Unfold II will be designed by Studio Awar and will be printed in January 2023. A launch event is tbc.  Please see our previous issue of Unfold for details of the format.
