Call for submissions:
Dame of the Hour
International Women’s Day exhibition
At St James’ Wine Vaults, Bath
Dates: 5th March 2018 - 22nd March 2018
Submission Deadline: 15th December
THEME
Since 1909, we have been commemorating the movement for women’s rights, on International Women’s Day (IWD). Dame of the Hour is an opportunity to celebrate IWD, in association with the local festivities. The exhibition takes inspiration from Dame Nellie Melba (1861-1931), a world renowned operatic soprano and the first Australian to be internationally recognised as a classical musician. It is perhaps also fitting that it was in the year 1909 that Dame Nellie Melba returned to to Australia —in the glory of her fame — for a ‘sentimental tour’ and was celebrated and lauded by fellow Australians for her success.
We are inviting all artists to submit works in response to the title and theme of this exhibtion, Dame of The Hour. Interpret this as you will, we can’t wait to see what you submit.
