Joya: AiR are offering residencies that reflect the range and diversity of contemporary artistic practice be it in visual art or literature. We are now accepting applications for autumn 2017...

Joya: AiR is an artist run 'not for profit' arts organisation and 'off-grid' cultural destination in rural Andalucía, Spain.

Joya: AiR offers residencies that reflect the range and diversity of contemporary artistic practice be it in visual art or literature. The residency extends over 20 hectares of land in the heart of a natural park and is located in a place of outstanding natural beauty.

The residency invites up to six artists/writers at any one time and offers contemplative space and/or stimulative interaction with other artists or writers in residence.

The autumn residency period is from the 1st of October until the 31st of December 2017. The duration of the residency is a minimum of one week but typically two, however longer opportunities are available upon request.

We invite artists and writers to the Joya: AiR opportunity to pursue the following disciplines:

Activism, Animation, Architecture, Art Education, Choreography, Collaboration, Community, Composition, Concept & Theory, Crafts & Trades, Critical studies, Curatorial, Dance, Design, Digital, Drawing, Experimental, Film & Video, Fine art, Installation, Journalism, Land Art, Light and Projection, Literature, Media Arts, Moving Image, Music & Sound, Painting, Pedagogy, Performance, Philosophy, Photography, Playwriting, Poetry, Research, Science, Sculpture, Social Practice, Sound, Technology, Theatre, Visual Arts, Writing.

Accommodation includes individual (and double) rooms each with attached bathroom. In addition, there are two large studios, common space and 20 hectares of land plus the 22,000 hectares of natural park that surround you.

The Joya: residency has a subsidised fee of €300 per week + 10% tax for your accommodation and all meals.

Applicants are asked for a minimum requirement of a bachelors’ degree (or equivalent) and a website where your work and cv can be clearly seen.

Once selected resident artists are asked (not obligatory) if they would like to make an informal presentation of their work to other resident artists during their stay.
