Keyhole Gallery: call for expressions of interest
Deadline: n/aVenue: Bank Street Arts | City: Sheffield | Region: South Yorkshire | Country: United Kingdom | Thomas Lawrence
Our Keyhole Gallery is, by quite a distance, the smallest of the various exhibition spaces that make up Bank Street Arts. Our Keyhole Gallery is, by quite a distance, the smallest of the various exhibition spaces that make up Bank Street Arts. For the last year or so, the Keyhole Gallery has been quietly occupied by Katherine Johnson’s Regular, one of the entrants to the 2011 edition of our International Artist’s Book Prize. We’re now interested in hearing about what other artists, makers or curators think that they could do with the space, with a view to us turning it over to several people during the next couple of years. The Keyhole Gallery would offer potential exhibitors a certain amount of flexibility but it is, as you would probably expect, very small, and its contents can only be viewed through three keyholes.
We’ve got a very open mind as to the sort of work that the Keyhole Gallery could house, and we’re certainly open to it being adapted if we were presented with a strong enough idea. What’s a given is that successful applicants would need to be resourceful, imaginative, and able to work within rather more narrow constraints than is often the case. For such a small- tiny– space, the Keyhole Gallery definitely represents quite a big challenge.
Any member of Bank Street Arts is welcome to submit a proposal. If you’re not currently a member you can sign up here. As a genuinely independent arts centre, we’re self-reliant, and becoming a member is one of the ways that you can support us and the work we do. In return, membership offers all kinds of benefits, such as free entry into our regular members’ exhibitions, reduced commission on gallery sales, discounts on gallery and meeting room hire, the ability to vote in our AGM, and a concession on all ticketed events.
