A Convenience Gallery open call exhibition about Parks in a park.

Convenience is hitting the road again and this time we are on a trip over to Birkenhead Park, In July for their 175th Birthday, and bringing some programming along for the ride. Birkenhead Park is a place of historical and International significance as the first municipal park in the world and we’re really excited to bring a project and artists to their visitor centre space.

This will be a collective exhibition about all things parks. Along with a few surprise bits of programming too.

To curate this exhibition we’re hosting a call for artists in the north west. For every new space we go to, we like to lead an open call to invite new artists, ideas and people, to shape our programming and make sure it's reflective and responsive to the community we sit in.

The brief is simple: Art about Parks. What is your experience of parks? Do you have a favorite? Think about memories and moments, a feeling, a funny story, nostalgia of youth, the wildlife, habitats, design, ponds, trees, activities, community groups, clubs, history, or something else that relates to parks personally for you, we’d love for you to submit. We want this to be a fun and engaging exhibition for people in our local community.

We’re looking to feature 10 - 20 artworks for this opportunity.

What type of work can you submit?

  • Premade works

  • Proposals for new works that can be completed by July 1st.

  • Multidisciplinary works.e.g. - sculpture, painting, installations, audio, film, performance, print, illustration, photography (we are open to all proposals and art forms).

Where does the exhbition take place?

In the indoor visitor centre space at Birkenhead Park.

When is it?

July 16th - 29th 2022

Who are Convenience Gallery?

We are a non-profit arts organisation. Working with contemporary artists and local people to build together fun, exciting, innovative and challenging art projects. Placing them into public spaces with the outcome of bringing people together.

Based in Birkenhead, we operate in a pop-up format at community locations. Our work creates a platform for local people and people across the North West, the UK and sometimes even the world.

How?

  1. Social: Community events and projects. Built by and for local people, to enjoy and get involved with new creative experiences and opportunities.(4000+ engaged).

  2. Support: Peer to peer development. Paid and Voluntary opportunities. Inter-sector collaborations.

  3. Spaces: Physical locations and head space. Creating platforms for creative exploration, learning and access.

We are a small team (Andy & Ryan) working with 70+ freelancers to date, dedicated to championing the arts. We came from towns of low cultural access and opportunities and this has driven us to create a platform that breaks down barriers.

Convenience believes that everyone has a right to access arts and be creative.
