Open Call for Co-Curators: "Shared Space Simultaneous Exhibition
Deadline: 31/01/2019Venue: Multiple | City: Multiple | Cooltsalon
INTERNATIONAL HOSTING PARTNERS OPEN CALL! Cooltsalon invites you to explore together the idea of a shared space and our individual and collective contributions to nurturing a sustainable and favourable framework for what it means to truly share a space: physical, emotional, social. We invite you to do so by joining our international collaboration project, which manifests in a 1-day exhibition event, happening simultaneously across several countries and time zones. What is being exhibited is not just works of international creatives but, actually, the premises and line of business of each host.
In May 2018 Cooltsalon established an ideas exchange model, that truly reflects the idea of ‘glocal’: a one-day simultaneous exhibition, where several cities showcased the same works to different audiences. The works came from submissions to a collaboratively created zine (“Cooltzine”); each participating city (hosting venue) then received the same exhibition assets for presentation and same zines for distribution, while contributors, hosts and attendees have the opportunity to tune into a live video stream, sneaking a peek into each other’s venues. Partners for the project launch were Leyden Gallery (London), be’kech (Berlin),Kvaka 22 (Belgrade) and Cush.Bar (Sofia). Presenting works from Cooltzine #1 at the same time (synced local times) and taking turns to live stream videos from their premises, the four participating venues allowed audiences to be united on a local and international level.
We decided to set it up as annual event, in the effort to shine light on socially active and culturally engaged establishments around the world, and as a reflection of our dedication to building connections between people and places.
Supported by CISCO technologies, contributors, hosts and attendees will be able to talk and present works in real time, unified by the exhibition content (same across the board; international) but also distinguished with individual programme highlights (different for each participating city; local). For the purposes of the event, CISCO will provide:
-
WEBEX TEAMS TRIALS for the hosts
-
WEBEX BOARD OR DX SCREENS for the locations
-
CISCO engineer/technician to install and support during the event
The event will take place on 18 May 2019, with a programme designed specifically around the collaborative project, including:
-
an exhibition of works submitted for Cooltzine #2 - hours synced across local time zones to allow for simultaneous (real-time) presentation of works (video projection starts at the same time in every city);
-
virtual tours of overseas spaces - all participating venues;
-
live stream chat with venue representatives and local artists and collaborators;
-
‘offline’ presentation of new works from past Cooltsalon collaborators, e.g. audio/video/performance/installation/ talks/discussion, dedicated to the idea of ‘shared space’
-
‘offline’ networking opportunities with venue hosts and attending local artists;
We now invite curators and cultural entrepreneurs to submit proposals for hosting the aforementioned exchange. We are especially encouraging submissions from early-to-mid career individuals and collectives, based in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, New York, Toronto, Kiev, Lviv, Warsaw, Prague, Budapest, Belgrade, Bucharest, Zagreb, Athens.
In fact, you can be based anywhere else in the world: if you think your city has a venue that should become a hosting partner, we'd love to hear your proposal, where and why.
Each hosting partner will receive:
-
Visibility / international introduction, allowing our partners to reach a new, overseas audience – live video feeds on the day of the exhibition event;
-
Access to a network of overseas contacts – collaborators/co-creators/locations and audiences;
-
Copies of "Cooltzine" vol.2 on the day of the simultaneous exhibition event (+ additional quantities upon request /depending on public interest)
-
Exhibition assets - works to be put on display (video projection)
-
‘Spotlight’ on every partner venue ahead of the event, through the Cooltsalon Facebook page and website (to be launched March 2019)
-
Promo video featuring each partner venue ahead of the event, to be shared online;
-
Inclusion/mentions in all associated announcements; coordination of international marketing & outreach efforts;
-
Inclusion of logos and contact details in the zine* (inside cover)
* as well as international distribution (print), the zine will also become available as a downloadable file online for 1 month, following the exhibition event
In return, a hosting partner joins the project with:
-
A representative of the venue partner on location on the day of the exhibition event – for presentation and tour of the space during live video feed;
- An individual programme of 'offline' events taking place on the day of the simulatenous international exhibition - which we can communicate to other hosting partners and include in cross-promotion;
-
Support with tech and logistics on site – available projector + screen /surface/ for the presentation of contributors’ works and the live video feed, reliable WiFi connection
-
Support with local promotion of the project and the one-day exhibition event – sharing information with local audiences and networks, local marketing and outreach
