SHIFT:ibpcpa // The International Biennale of Performance, Collaborative and Participatory Arts.

SHIFT: The International Biennale of Performance, Collaborative and Participatory Arts aka [SHIFT: ibpcpa] a non-profit art initiative with a specific focus on performance, collaborative and participatory art practices and currently looking for proposals from fine art performance artists using participation and collaboration in their practice.

[SHIFT: ibpcpa] provides an opportunity for artists to enhance their practice, theoretical and critical approach, within the current and future context of performance art. For this reason, [SHIFT: ibpcpa] specifically focuses on the untapped potential of performance, collaborative and participatory art.

The biennale lasts from June 2020 until August 2020 and is networked. Meaning work can exist within the digital and/or physical domains where necessary… where networked and nomadic projects traverse the hypothetical space and physical place.

2020 Theme:

PLACE / SPACE / MEANING

Human-based topographical understanding of space and place play an important role in how people navigate an area. Yet, both concepts vary in that ‘space’ also represents something abstract or lacking in concrete meaning. Additionally, the idea of ‘place’ stretches to include awareness or attraction, to a particular place, experienced by individuals or groups of people. Place could develop into substantial space where meaning evolves.

The [SHIFT:ibpcpa] committee look forward to receiving applications from artists with an awareness of what SPACE / PLACE / MEANING could represent or explore.  For example, memory, understanding, haptic, phenomenological or other sensory knowledge of a single or combination of stated areas. These can range from hypothetical to lived and experienced areas exploring how do we create meaning, space and place for ourselves, for society and as groups.

The first [SHIFT:ibpcpa] will present projects from artists with a unique interpretation of the concept of SPACE / PLACE / MEANING. Artists must include these elements into their work while also retaining the main focal points of the biennale (performance, collaborative or participatory practices).

What is SHIFT:ibpcpa?
SHIFT:ibpcpa biennale focuses on networked and physical performances. The physical performances will take place in Scotland, but networked performances will be streamed live via an online platform from the selected artists' location. This method of presenting work is to enable artists who face travel, and financial restrictions to be considered and take part in this biennale. Please read our about page for details of what we look for in a proposal.
