The QUEENS COLLECTIVE is a place and artistic collective where creation can blossom through the collective mind. It is a space for movement and stillness, for body and mind. A nourishing environment for artistic energy where exhibitions, encounters, performances, collaborations, workshops, social projects and artists come together. A meeting ground and incubator into the Moroccan and Arabic art world, culture and traditions. Artists who are interested in living and working within a communal setting whilst fully engaging in the Moroccan culture and lifestyle are welcome to apply to become a member of the QUEENS COLLECTIVE.

The QUEENS COLLECTIVE is a place and artistic collective where creation can blossom through the collective mind. The framework is created by the members of Queens Collective and is in constant flux.

QC is a multidisciplinary collective for emerging and established, international and local artists.
QC has a physical space where its members live, create and present their work.
The QC provides a membership, for artists to work, experiment, live, discuss, eat and network for a period of 5 months or 10 months in the Medina of Marrakech, Morocco.
Members can arrive and leave at any time during their residency.

Artists who are interested in living and working within a communal setting whilst fully engaging in the Moroccan culture and lifestyle are welcome to apply to become a member of the QUEENS COLLECTIVE.

​The QUEENS COLLECTIVE offers two types of membership.
A membership of 10 months and a membership of 5 months.
The total amount of members are 10 artists.
It is possible to apply as an artist couple.
Every 2 months there will be a public presentation to share individual and collaborative works, and work in progress.Regular workshops for the local community of Marrakech will also happen in the house. 

The working languages are English, French and Arabic.


The house

As a member of the QC you will live in a beautiful 3-floor riad in the Medina of Marrakech. Surrounded by the Atlas Mountains. The house was created in 2014 by Hana and Siham and many different artists on a DIY base and served as a culture house / guesthouse. On the first floor there are two large shared ateliers, three smaller flexible ateliers and one double sleeping room. The communal patio space is used for presentations and other activities for the local community. Beside a communal kitchen, we also have a little stove for the winter and a small library. On the second floor there are 4 shared sleeping rooms for two people each.

The third floor (terrace) includes a rich garden, four turtles and Mihow’s (QC resident dog) living space. On the terrace you will also find 4 open-air showers, an open-air dance space of 22 sqm and a workshop for hand, power tools and other materials. The roof of the workshop serves as another small terrace where you can feel like Marry Poppins gazing over the rooftop of the Medina. QC also provides a larger dance studio situated outside of the Medina of Marrakech.

Payment

Residents must provide for their own food, travel, and miscellaneous expenses.
The membership fee is to be paid in advance and is non-refundable.

Support from the QC

QC is runned by artists, which means we will be living and working as active participants of the collective. We will guide and help the artists to connect with the local neighborhood and artistic community. We will also be active in supporting the artists personal artistic practice, with finding relevant materials and tools, potential critics, etc.
