ORBIT is a (for the timebeing) online initiative, aiming to support and showcase the work of emerging artists and writers throughout the UK, with the initial aim of publishing reviews/articles and hosting residencies on a weekly basis. ORBIT hopes to act as a platform for discussion and collaboration between artists at all different stages of their career from all across the country.

ORBIT is a new online initiative aiming to support and showcase the work of emerging artists and writers. ORBIT was originally just going to be a place for highlighting new artists and gaining exposure for their work, until it was realised that this platform could provide so much more.

Through the inclusion of weekly reviews submitted to us by guest writers, we are able to also highlight the work of artists and exhibitons from all across the country, as well as simultaneously providing exposure and experience for writers who wish to get their exhibition reviews or critical writing viewed by a wider audience.

For now we are hoping/aiming to publish a couple of reviews per week, however the number of reviews may increase over time/once we get more into the swing of things.

Reviews will be featured and archived on the Reviews page of our webiste, and promoted extensively through social media straight up until the next review by the next writer has been published.

If you want to have your writing published on the site, please send us your piece of writing (500-1000 words) and any pictures you may have of the exhibition, along with some brief information about the exhibition you’re reviewing (dates, location, featured artists etc…). Please also send a short bio about yourself and your work, and contact details (email/website/social media etc..) to be published alongside your review.

Who is eligible for this opportunity?
When is the deadline?
There is no deadline, but if we select your writing to be featured, we would like to get it published online as quickly as possible.
i.e. if you've wrote about an exhibition, we'd like to publish the review while the exhibition is still open to the public, and so on.
How many works can I submit?
One piece of writing per submission, but you're welcome to re-submit however many times you fancy.
Are there payments to artists?
Currently, ORBIT has no funding, so we are unable to compensate any of the artists or writers we work with, but this is something we are hoping to combat in the future.
What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
Constant promotion of your writing through social media when it's first published, then it will be archived on our website for future access.
What happens if my proposal is chosen?
You will be contacted to be informed that you've been selected, then again when it comes to publishing the piece.
What kind of proposals are you looking for?
Exhibition reviews and critical writing/articles - as long as it's relevant to contemporary art :-)
