Roots and Wings is an exhibition held at House of Blah Blah, Middlesbrough exploring the themes of girls growing up around the world.

Roots and Wings is an exhibition held at House of Blah Blah, Middlesbrough exploring the themes of girls growing up around the world. Inspired by a study which stated that Middlesbrough was the worst place for girls to grow up in the UK. How do other girls get brought up around the world, and what culturally and ethnically differences do we teach on girls for us to grow up so differently or similarly?

We are looking for artists who explore these themes in their work, all types of work welcomed. With a relaxed theme of what it's like for girls to grow up around the world. The exhibition explores other cultures and how girls have grown up around the world.

Themes such as,

  • Child brides
  • War-torn countries
  • Poverty
  • Tribal mutilation
  • Drug use
  • Travelling
  • lower/ upper or middle-class families
