An opportunity to showcase sculpture, ceramics and glass for sale or commission within a popular Open Gardens Trail as part of the annual Saltaire Festival. Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September 2017

Saltaire Open Gardens Trail takes place over the opening weekend of the two-week annual Saltaire Festival - this year on 9th & 10th September.

Local residents open the back yards and gardens  of their Grade II listed cottages to share with visitors the wide variety of planting and creativity within the limited outside spaces in the UNESCO World Heritage village.

We are looking for artists working in any 3D medium suitable for external display to show work in one of around twelve small garden spaces.

This two-day event is a a major element of the Festival Opening Weekend and coincides with the popular Makers Fair at Victoria Hall, run by Saltaire Inspired, who also produce the Saltaire Art Trail in May.

Because of the nature of the Grade II listed architecture in the village, most spaces are small - many no more than enclosed back-yards, so the event is suitable for sculptural ceramics and glass as well as sculpture.

Work may be for sale, and the footfall for the event is very good.

There is a small fee to artists of £20 to contribute to publicity and administration costs for this volunteer-run event, but no commission is taken on sales.

The event will also be included in the Festival's own marketing, both print and web. We’d like to ask all exhibitors to participate in the marketing and to promote their attendance at the event as much as possible.
Do I need to be present?
For part of the time if possible, and by arrangement with the host.
Where will my venue be listed?

Saltaire Inspired will produce online galleries for exhibiting artists, including 3 images and a short statement, which will be displayed on the Saltaire Inspired website, along artists at the Festival Makers Fair.
How do you decide on proposals?
Representatives from Saltaire Inspired and from Saltaire Festival will meet in the first week of July to consider proposals and all applicants will be contacted with a decision by the end of the 2nd week in July.
What happens if my proposal is chosen?
Successful applicants will be put in touch by email with their host householder, so that they can discuss numbers and type of work to be shown, delivery and pick-up dates, etc.
What kind of proposals are you looking for?
We will consider artist proposals alongside available garden spaces, so we will be looking for work that will give a good fit. There are some good-sized gardens in Saltaire, but the majority are small, and some are simply imaginatively planted yard spaces! So we'll be looking for a range of work to create an interesting Trail.
What are the selection criteria?
We aim to showcase the original work of independent artists and makers. All work must be handmade. We are looking for work that is of good quality, contemporary and interesting.
