Call for work- Sense of Place, an exhibition of contemporary art exploring relationships with place, spaces and the environment. The work must be wall based, any size or medium considered, and will be on show from 1st December until end of February at Sheffield’s newest art venue WhiteRoomGallery @Yellow Arch. Short deadline!

This winter at Yellow Arch, Sheffield’s much-loved music venue and recording studios in Kelham Island, we are starting a new venture, using one of its rooms as an artspace. WhiteRoomGallery will be opening its first exhibition on 1st December and we are looking for new and exciting work to put on the walls.

This is a chance for you to get your work seen and sold in a new venue, in vibrant surroundings with different audiences. Yellow Arch was voted Sheffield’s Best Late-Night Venue 2018 in the Social Sheffield Awards, and from 1st December we will also be opening during the day, every day up to Xmas, so people can pop in for a coffee and view the exhibition.

Sense of Place

In the wake of serious warnings of the latest UN report on climate change, Sense of Place seeks to bring together a collection of artworks responding to the theme of place, spaces and the outdoor world. These works could respond to the political uncertainties we are facing across the globe manifesting in the continual displacement of people through warfare and environmental disasters. Or our relationship with the environment on a personal level or day to day basis.

Works may consider, examine or reflect on this thematic in some way.

Deadline for submissions 23rd November 5pm.

Successful applicants will then be notified on Saturday 24th by email and/or phone.

If successful you must be able to deliver work to Yellow Arch Studios, 30-36 Burton Rd., Sheffield S3 8BX before Wednesday 28th November. Opening times from 11am-6pm, but other deliveries can possibly be made by arrangement.

There is a small £10 admin fee per artist, for all artists who show in the exhibition.

Work may be for sale and Yellow Arch will take 20% commission of sales.

Work will be on display from 1st December until 28th February (NB Yellow Arch closes for a few days over Christmas from 21st December)

There are a couple of dates within this time that WhiteRoomGallery is used for other events, such as weddings, when the artworks may need to be removed and stored safely overnight in a storage room next to the gallery. For this reason, work must be wall based and easily hung.

This is a new, so far unfunded venture, and as such Artists must also be able to provide own insurance for their artwork, and reasonable packaging such as bubblewrap so the work can be stored safely.

We are excited about the possibilities and hope that you will be too. We look forward to receiving your submissions!
