This is an opportunity for Postgraduate Research students engaged in practice-based research (in the field of the arts and visual culture) to submit work for a group exhibition at the Market Gallery in Queensgate Market, Huddersfield as part of the Temporary Contemporary initiative.

This joint exhibition Situating Practices/ Modes of Representation will engage with different configurations of (art)practice as research or research as (art)practice through the curation and dialogue around the work and research practices of PGR students engaged in practice-based research in the arts and visual culture.

As part of the Temporary Contemporary partnership project between Queensgate Market, Kirklees Council and the School of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Huddersfield, this exhibition intends to activate the unique space of Queensgate Market, with a showcase of research-led work and a public-orientated programme of workshops, artists talks and discussion groups.

Research practitioners are invited to submit art/design/research work in any medium, including written work, that responds to the themes of (research/art) practice, process and/or re-presentation and repetition as practice-based methodology.

Applicants may submit 1-2 works, or proposals for works in progress, for review along with an artist/research statement (max 500 words) considering how you situate your creative practice as a researcher and/or how you articulate your research as a creative practitioner.

Applicants with accepted works in this exhibition will need to share responsibility for invigilation while open to the public (by discussion) and will be encouraged to participate in the public programme, either through giving an artist talk or participating in discussions. There will be an accompanying exhibition text and potential for future collaborative publications dependent on funding.

Applicants must be prepared to provide their own resources and equipment. Small works may be delivered and installed by organisers by arrangement, large works must be delivered by the applicant. There may be funds available to assist with transport and material costs/ travel expenses at the discretion of the organisers.
