Academy AiR is a residency for emerging video artists based at Academy Costumes, one of the UK's leading costumiers for screen and performing arts. We are seeking videos for a screening by emerging artists working with relevant themes.

Academy AiR is an artist residency that commissions a video artist to make a new work using the costumes and facilities at Academy Costumes. They receive a studio space and exhibition at Platform, a non-profit project space in Southwark, as well as curatorial and technical support from art collective ZOOX. Our current artist in residence is Sophie Rogers.

Alongside the residency, ZOOX are curating a series of evening events at Platform to help create an inclusive, ongoing community of emerging artists that can meet, discuss ideas, show work and act as a support network.

For our first open call event we will be curating a screening of videos that address themes associated with Academy AiR such as storytelling or character construction. We invite emerging artists to submit their work to be screened alongside a video by our artist in residence, Sophie Rogers. We are particularly interested in artists that utilise or make costumes within their practice.

Please note that the videos will be projected as part of a showreel, and so we request that they have a running time of no longer than approx. 15mins. Excerpts will be accepted.

Artists will be announced on 26/02/17 and will be required to send their finished video files to us by 01/03/17.

Academy AiR is supported by public funding from Arts Council England.
