Re-imagining the Laws of England
Deadline: 01/01/2017Mike Clements
An exhibition of artists' books seeking touring venues. Twenty-seven redundant volumes of "Halsbury's Statutes" transformed into works of art by artists who responded to a call from the Sidney Nolan Trust (www.sidneynolantrust.org). Available from July 2015 to end 2017. Exhibition designed to be relevant to the Magna Carta 800 celebrations in 2015 & 2017.
We've had a fantastic response from galleries as well as artists to our altered book project to mark the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta. Altered volumes of Halsbury's Statutes made by 24 artists have begun touring the UK. After the opening exhibition at The Sidney Nolan Trust, near Presteigne in the Border Marches, in June 2015, the volumes have been to Bank Street Arts in Sheffield and to Liverpool Central Library. In 2016, the tour includes the Aldeburgh Literary Festival; Westminster Reference Library; Artwork Gallery, Northwich, Cheshire; Hereford College of the Arts; & UWE Bristol. There are still opportunities for new touring venues to show the exhibition in 2017 (also an important year for Magna Carta celebrations). Please get in touch if your gallery would like to join in.
Please note that this is no longer an opportunity for artists. It is now an opportunity for galleries interested in showing the touring exhibition. More info at www.sidneynolantrust.org/what-we-do/book-arts/re-imagining-the-laws-of-england.
