IJE Aberdeenshire, United Kingdom
A material-led sculptor and painter with an embodied, process-driven practice. My creations are extensions of the rhythms of my body: active evolving sites of experimentation, fabrications of sensuous energetic memories, “Mmiri Mmiri / I am fluid"
I am a multidisciplinary artist whose sensuous practice spans sculpture, painting, installation, writing, and embodied documentation. My materially rich works explore memory, movement, identity, and the shifting relationships between body, landscape, and beyond. Across media, I employ a durational, iterative approach shaped by breath, rhythm, and the body's negotiation of space.
Central to my practice is the concept of perdurance: the self as fluid, composed of temporal parts in constant change. Long-distance walking and slow running across varied terrains inform my attention to rhythm, repetition, and the shifting relationships between body, landscape, and beyond. Through processes of accumulation, layering, puncturing, construction, and transformation, paintings and sculptures emerge as repositories of lived experience, holding traces of movement, encounter, and memory.
Whether through sculptural form, material interventions, or layered painted surfaces, my work investigates the boundaries between interior and exterior worlds. Geological formations, tidal movements, embodied encounters, ancestral histories, and neurodivergent experience intersect within works that oscillate between the personal and collective, the physical and metaphysical. Chromatic shifts, gestural marks, and tactile surfaces become vessels for emotional resonance, sensuous experience, and states of becoming.
Born in Scotland to British/Nigerian heritage, my work reflects porous identity and embodied presence: "Mmiri Mmiri / I am fluid." I hold an MA in Fine Art from Birmingham City University (2016), am a recipient of the 2025 Freelands Foundation/a-n Bursary and winner of the Chameleon Arts Prize (2019). I serve as Trustee and Ambassador for the UK charity Outside In. My work is held in private and corporate collections in the UK and internationally.
