    I am a neurobiologist by day and artist by night. I explore various topics directly impacting me like the emotional impact of chronic pain, the nature, and the science around me.     I'm a 53 year old Artist from Yorkshire, i Love to paint what is in my head. I do occasionally like to paint a portrait, usually a personality from a band.     I am a painter, educator and scholar. I live and work in Bristol (SW England) and St Davids (SW Wales). I am not a ‘landscape painter’, but my abstract work is informed by both these environments. I am 66, and have one son. I live with my partner and work from home.     My favourite subject is the English countryside, especially trees, and I am captivated by low light and the challenge of trying to capture it in oils. I love to use oil paint but oil pastels and oil sticks are my deepest passion.

    Vivid, gestural oil paintings reveal a fascination with emotional states, with the help of unwitting accomplices captured from feature film and TV- their surfaces hint at depths of emotion below. Forever given pause, they comment on emotional entanglement with the artificial as a substitute – or perhaps immunisation against- the fluctuating feelings of everyday life.

    Born in Liverpool, UK. Studied Fine Art in Liverpool and Coventry, and worked as a community artist. Returned to full-time education for MA at Winchester School of Art, and then awarded a bursary for a PhD at Nottingham Trent University. He has exhibited widely, and worked in various roles in museums and galleries, including Tate Liverpool. He currently lives and works in London and Taipei.
