    I am a graduate professional artist with BA Fine Art First Class Honours 2006. I'm inspired by the landscape and create work that abstracts what I see and experience. Often working en plein air I create dynamic & colourful compositions. I'm inspired by abstract expressionism with rapid expressive mark making & striking colours of Fauvism.     My name is Gemma Yates and I'm a painter from the UK. I love to paint natural forms such as flowers, trees, figures and thriving landscapes.     My work explores, identity, space and belonging through memory and migration. I specialise with analogue film and photography, combining this with digital mediums to create layered pieces of artwork. I have a special interest in exploring stories from the past, stories of migration and transition of cultures in today's society.     Recent graduate of a first class degree in BA (Hons) Fine Art at the Northern School of Art. I enjoy the process of investigating landscape via graphite, paint, photography and collage.
