I make paintings about what it is to be human and our dis-connection from the natural world. I am inspired by Adam and Eve and how paradise lives in our psyche as both a longing for home or mythical place. My work as a psychotherapist is mirrored in the psychodrama of the work, the painted surface and imagery reflecting our fractures, flaws, both psychological/physical, and our wish for love.

I make paintings about what it is to be human and our dis-connection from the natural world and from our true selves. My background in psychotherapy provides fertile ground for exploration of western creation mythology where knowledge and seeing reveal our nakedness with all our fractures and flaws. The painted surface becomes the spot where the psychodrama is enacted, where one thing becomes another, bodies elongate, twist and turn, either as an act of adaptation and resilience or as a surrendering of boundary. Thus the ordinary man, woman or non binary person, through layering and working the surface of the paint become something we can all recognise, a universal or archetypal human. The territory of the painted surface is where the psychodrama happens, each mark formed from the process of painting and responding to what the work wants of me. Is hope and beauty a radical viewpoint against all the odds?
