“Rocks not only contain the history of the world, but they also contain the history of humanity: our settlements, our burials, our wars, our agriculture, our travel and our trade.” Dr.Richard Davey - Essay titled “Looking, Learning, Being.” 2025. There are aspects to my work, that are in a constant state of flux, I am constantly, collecting and sketch-booking, and then, trying to get the studio, the work, and myself talking together. The natural landscape is a living space without boundaries. I painting directly onto a surface, plaster, watercolour, acrylic and oil. Looking and experiencing, the visual and sensory, organising the outside for later work in the studio to help prompt my memory and imagination. Suburbia, where the built and natural environment perform and interact, and the natural phenomena paint their own image on the environment. The studio becomes a place revisiting and re-working. My palette is relatively simple whether using waterbased paint or oil, a brush stroke, wash or colour field, the layering changes according to the time of day or a play of light, the memory and moment of magic.
