Julie Reid Dorset, United Kingdom
  Back to profiles

Originally from South London, Julie is a conceptual Fine Art artist now residing in Bournemouth, England. Transitioning from the work force after a severe illness, she has since graduated with a First Class, Fine Art (Hons) degree in 2022 and a Distinction in MA Painting in 2023, at Arts University Bournemouth.

Julie’s praxis is concerned with deep research that investigates current environmental concerns and explores, through subverting the narrative, fairy tales, nature morte, colonialism, animal and environmental loss through climate change. She translates these relevant and sometimes intense subjects, that are apprised and felt on a personal level, but are conceived and formed into concepts that are left open to interpretation to the viewer. Julie is still seeking and pushing materials and painting techniques in oils and acrylics that fuse the hyper realistic with surrealism and contemporary abstract, that looks to inspire a dialogue regarding sociological issues and the delicate balance of our integrating, environmentally challenged world. The more depth of meaning translated into the piece, the deeper that dialogue can be.
