Maija Liepins Hampshire, United Kingdom
Maija Liepins is an Australian interdisciplinary visual artist of Latvian descent. Mystically connected to nature, her writing, moving images, and drawings explore the emotional, imaginative, and soulful experience of embodied life. Her drawings map an emergent personal mythology, while her participatory experiential art projects open space for co-creative dialogue and collective reflection.
Working at the intersection of embodied experience, creative process, and relational inquiry, my practice is grounded in the belief that art is not a product but a process — a live, unfolding event shaped by presence and dialogue. I draw upon personal mythology, improvisation, and site-responsive methods to generate work that is simultaneously introspective and collective, vulnerable and transformative.
I am interested in shifts in consciousness, creative-mapping and collective transformation. Working through writing, performance, and participatory formats, I explore how sensory, emotional, and intuitive ways of knowing can be shared and activated within creative communities. Whether through an immersive installation that invites an audience to join in, or through hand-drawn conversations, I’m interested in how meaning emerges in the space-between: between people, between mediums, between what’s said and what’s sensed.
My artistic research is currently focused on Embodied Dialogic Practice — a term I’ve developed to describe a mode of co-creative inquiry that includes the body, emotions, and inner voice as valid participants in the production of knowledge. This work evolves through active listening, experimental artmaking, and dialogic methods that prioritise connection over control, emergence over execution. In this sense, my art practice is also my philosophy—a way of navigating life’s complexity through creative encounter.
